Double Indemnity (Billy Wilder, 1944)

In this movie the main actor is Walter Neff, Mrs. Dietrichson, Lola Dietrichson, Keyes and Nino Zachetti. This film shows the elements of film noir where it is found to be using low key photograph, wet city street, and romantic fascination and shows the character of femme fatale  (Naremore. James 1998, film noir). Double indemnity was shown using low key lighting, and dark shadows of Walter Neff and Mrs. Dietrichson. Walter Neff is the male protagonist and Mrs. Dietrichson is showing the femme fatale characteristic. This movie shows how Mrs. Dietrichson seduced Walter Neff to kill her husband Mr. Dietrichson. She even used Nino Zachetti to set Walter Neff in trouble. This shows how the femme fatale character shown as strong in this movie. The femme fatale is an irresistibly attractive woman who leads men into danger and she also became the protagonist’s romance interest (Grossman, J. (2009). Rethinking the Femme Fatale in Film Noir [Introduction]. Besides that Mrs. Dietrichson used her beauty, charm and appeal to seduce Walter. And we also can see how women have become modern where they are not anymore staying in the house and do house chores (Snyder, Scott (2011) ‘Personality Disorder and the Film Noir Femme Fatale).

As the conclusion they shows how detectives plays role in this film. They show the detectives and crime (Dimenberg. E 2004) where Keyes tried to find out who actually kills Mr. Dietrichson. The male protagonist, Walter Neff ends up in trouble because he wanted the women and the money. Because of his greediness he ends up in trouble. In this movie, they also show that the colored people are only used as the workers and the main characters are the whites ( Lott. E 1997).
